Getting started

Folio is an unofficial iPad client for Figma Design. iPhone support is Alpha in development builds. It needs iPadOS 26+ or iOS 26+, an internet connection and your own Figma account.

Install

Folio is pre-1.0. There is no public release download yet. Source release is planned. Use a build supplied by Folio’s developer; the source instructions are for the current private checkout. A development build requires device trust and Developer Mode. Distribution details will be added when decided.

Welcome tour

On first launch Folio shows a short welcome tour: what Folio is, touch mode, Apple Pencil double-tap and squeeze actions, and a quick look at tabs, the bottom toolbar and keyboard shortcuts. Skip it any time. Replay it from ⋯ > Welcome tour or Settings > General. Every choice in the tour is also in Settings > Input.

Open Folio and sign in on Figma’s own page. Use email/password and any required second factor if your account allows it, or your organization’s supported SSO. Folio can present related sign-in windows; close them with Close window if you cancel.

Google sign-in cannot run in Folio’s embedded browser. Folio hides “Continue with Google” on Figma’s login and sign-up pages and shows guidance if you reach Google another way. Use an eligible email/password or SSO method, or use Figma in Safari. Signing into Safari does not sign Folio in. Folio has no cookie-import or credential-transfer option. Keep passwords and authentication pages out of reports.

Home and tabs

On iPad, Home shows Figma’s dashboard. Open a file there to create or select its document tab. Selecting Home returns to the dashboard. The + control starts a new Design file.

Select a tab to return to its file. Use the tab menu to pin a file, copy its link or move it to a new window. Pinned tabs appear after Home and cannot be closed until unpinned. Drag tabs to reorder them or move them between Folio windows. Moves reopen the file URL, so transient editor state may not follow.

Use ⋯ for New Window, Reopen Closed Tab, downloads, display controls, the Welcome tour, Settings and Developer Tools. Each window has its own Home, tab order and selection. All windows share the app’s Figma website session.

iPhone support (Alpha)

The compact top bar has Home, the current tab title with a tab count, and ⋯. Tap the title to open the tab list. Select a tab, swipe to close it, swipe right to pin it, or drag to reorder. The list also offers New Design file, Open link and Reopen closed tab. iPhone has no New window or Move to window command.

Folio requests the desktop website. Without saved choices, iPhone starts at 100% interface zoom, always in Touch Only (there is no touch-mode choice; the choice and the Apple Pencil settings appear only on an iPhone Duo, once Folio sees an Apple Pencil touch or an unfolded window) with the bottom toolbar shown. Automatic memory policy keeps one live file plus Home; other files reload when selected. You can choose a two-file cap instead. Settings and Developer Tools show one section at a time; use Back to return to the section list.

The floating phone tool pill shows Design or Dev Mode tools above the scrolling edit bar. Layers and Properties open a bottom sheet in portrait and side panels in landscape. See the iPhone Alpha guide for these controls, the number keyboard, Duo layouts and the remaining device checks.

Settings

Open ⋯ > Settings or press Command-comma. General controls the launch page, saved tabs and memory policy, and replays the Welcome tour. Restore tabs retains files, order and pins; background files load when selected. Turning it off clears saved lists without closing current files.

Display controls interface zoom, the toolbar and the bottom toolbar. If you hide the toolbar, use the floating Show toolbar control to restore it. Interface zoom changes the size of Figma’s interface and Folio’s chrome; canvas zoom changes the design view.

Touch mode changes apply immediately across tabs and windows. Other input switches apply to the selected tab and future tabs; already-open sibling tabs retain their settings. Fonts stores imported original font files locally; it does not guarantee that Figma can use them. The Debug-only Figma connection remains experimental.

Continue with input controls, keyboard shortcuts or troubleshooting.
